On April 6th the Monte Vista City Council will hear comments from the community on which of two proposals the community prefers and after hearing those comments will vote on the future of the theaters. You can view both proposals here. (Fast forward in 26:00 past the mini cheerleaders to see the proposals) Full disclosure, one of the proposals is from my company, Buffalo Broadcasting of Colorado, owners of 96.5 The Fox (KSLV), 95.3 KYDN Country, and Fox Sports SLV 1240 AM & 101.3 FM (KBGV). The other proposal is from the Valley Church of the Nazarene.
The proposals are very different. The proposal from the church has a number of new, well thought out ideas including turning one of the theaters into a coffee shop. The proposal from the radio stations features 11 new programming ideas including turning one of the the theaters into radio studios.
Among those 11 ideas, the addition of beer and wine sales as well as sports on the big screen in addition to continuing first run movies and expanding show times. The jury is out as to whether the Valley will support either of our proposals. Will people show up to watch the Broncos and NFL out of market football on the big screen for free? Would they show up for Pay Per View fights? PPV fights can get pricey… Prices are set by the promoters not the theaters.
This is a big decision that will impact Monte Vista for years to come. Take the time to watch the proposals and plan to attend the April 6th City Council meeting and make your opinion known! Feel free to send me your thoughts and comments. Reach me at bob@965thefoxfm.com
